Jane Eyre: if it was written in modern day
Imagine if the famous story from the novelist Bronte family member was written in modern times. England would have less colonies and the house of Windsor would be newspaper headlines. But everything about the richness and beauty of the the country's landscapes and castles isn't gone.
Now imagine Edward Rochester is a public figure, an actor or singer. If not a triple threat, which means he has various talents. He is the desire of many females. Edward still likes to ride his horse and might have other animal companions. He's always attending to his business and communicating with his family.
Now imagine he meets Bertha Mason, a lady Edward thinks might be his ideal partner. However, he realizes much too late Bertha isn't all she seems. His wife is an actress and has other skills, some family members as well. Unfortunately, she lived a life where negligence and perversion reign. Similar to the Greek tragedies of lore.
The only thing that will make her happy is popularity and money; the key to success is pride and greed. Everything of life is a popularity contest. This leads to deception and ignorance. Furthermore, it encourages blurred boundaries and madness. Their could be an addiction involved along with aggression.
Edward is heartbroken and wishes things were different. That he had met someone else sooner. Thoughts of suicide plague his soul of self pity. True love may never come to him. He attempts to seek out but meets individuals of similar patterns to Bertha.
He has no repulsion for his disturbed wife, only compassion and indignation of her actions. But wishes they part ways and not on unpleasant terms. Bertha only is insanely jealous as she mad, and insists he must accept this fate of their union. Edward rather be alone or die to agree to such.
Now imagine Jane comes into his life. Jane comes from a family that didn't have much. Has been hurt by bias and disturbed individuals like Bertha. Regardless of race, gender, social bank or beliefs. Jane is an aspiring actress and singer with other interests.
The feelings Edward had is profound, he identifies her as his true love. The contrast in up-bringings doesn't pose an obstacle. However Bertha isn't thrilled with this news and attempts to stop it. Jane thinks it's better they go separate ways so he can attempt reconciliation with Berta. But the troubled lady isn't ideal for Edward no matter what anybody says.
Any schemes of staying with Edward ultimately backfires on Bertha, it fails at succeeding. Once Edward is free of the tepid and unfortunate union he was in. He knows that he cannot be with Jane, forever. The profound and resonating love she feels makes her stay with him. This famous story would still be popular and of profound love even in our lifetime.
