The Bad Boy: profoundly awful or antihero?

For as long as there's been books, Opera, film and television . We have always heard of one kind of archetype: the bad boy . A man who ignores rules, laws and politeness. Then again, is it always the case? Take the example of Samson from the Judges in the Bible.  Samson believed converting outsiders of his religion to God through marriage was right in his perspective. Much to the disagreement of his family. What later happened to the lady he planned to marry. His anger led to vengeance on their unfair ways, a classic example of a "bad" boy origin story. Unfairness, betrayal and cruelty, especially once forgiveness towards those victimized. In the Horror Drama genre, vampires have a similar trope. Be it Alexander Grayson of Dracula (2013) or other famous TV vampires. In the tales of swashbucklers like ' Captain Blood ', D'artagnan from the 'Three Musketeers' and ' The Pirate ' directed by Vincent Minnelli. We see that the male lead also fit th...

This sounds familar: When pop culture gets inspiration from the Bible

Whether one likes it or not, the Bible has inspired a great deal of famous stories, TV series, plays, music and even movies. Despite difference of religion and opinions on the scriptures. We've seen this for as long as there's been book publishing and major film making.  The classic fables by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm are key examples. Cinderella has similarity to the story of Esther, of acceptance and overcoming cruelty. Snow White took from the story of [future] King David's father-in-law, King Saul, murderous jealousy towards him. Additionally, David slaying Goliath also is inspiration for Jack and the Beanstalk . The story of Sleeping Beauty takes from the arrival of a curse and the importance of a deliverer.  In famous novels, the Bible continues to be a source material.  East of Eden  Biblical inspiration not only for its title but the story of Cain and Abel rivalry. The book of Exodus parallels the anthropomorphic tale of survi...

From the Virgin Mary to Queen Esther: Do these women of the bible serve as archetypes of light and dark feminine?

Since 2020, the archetypes of the light and dark feminine has been widely talked about. But when discussed online we mostly see examples and works of fiction or public. The men who they want to be with also play an important role. Being providers and protectors, never abandoning in a dangerous time.  When we think of the women of the Bible who are famous and the ones overlooked. Their were those who were compassionate, determine, loving and caring. Then we have the ones who were tepid, deceptive, arrogant and unkind. Not to mention the ones who may had done something wrong but God was merciful towards. Let's begin with talking of the one of the most famous. Mary of Nazareth, Jesus mother, willingly accepted carrying the messiah in her womb despite what others would say. Her husband Joseph, seeing it was of God's will and not turning his back on her. God showed her and Joseph great favor.  Let's go further and now speak of one of the most infamous. Queen Jezebel personif...

An Unlikely Romance

An Unlikely Romance  It is grotesque to know How someone can stoop so low How jealousy is the destroyer Pride cometh before the fall as once told by the Proverbs author  Like the story of Electra and Orestes, it has parallels with the Bible's Ahab and Jezebel Both plotting against someone who they should have thought twice to mess with The involvement of an reluctant Naboth would also come into account Deception to avoid the speculation Manipulation of the images and stories told Obsession and desperation to further recognition Greed of the social chameleon started moons ago  You cannot be with this person, you cannot be with that person Must show, my show this lie forever more Always about me, it must always appear to be about me and how wonderful I am Like Emma Bovary and Ellen Bernet gone mad A lie cannot live for an eternity Especially when those find things odd Nobody can deceive God A seductress encounters those like the villainous pairing...

Mainstream Meditation: Is it a good thing?

In the Man Upstairs thousand page book, it mentions how we should question and be cautious of certain things in the World. One thing which comes to mind is mainstream meditation. Most people who're into it know what is being spoken of here: "Breathe in and breathe out", "Sit in locus position or standing up", or "Imagine yourself in this place or at this place.". In the Man Upstairs book, it spoke about meditation but in the Lord's Word and with Him. If a person who knows of THIS meditation, they'll think on THOSE THINGS. They won't be thinking of the "meditation" which this blog is about.  Maybe those "meditations" can help some people with whatever it is they're facing. However, does it REALLY help others?  It can either become a new addiction or a detachment from reality. Does it help someone to become more closer to the Man Upstairs? Is it making that person have a change of heart in terms of their personality? ...

"No respecter of persons" isn't just a saying

Image
When we think of the phrase, "No respecter of person." we immediately think of the Bible; where the phrase originates from. It means God knows all of us regardless what we we look like or do. This phrase can also be applied to understanding serious situation. Such as abusive, an addict or discriminatory. Anyone can be any of those things REGARDLESS of who they are.  This phrase has a very powerful and understandable meaning behind it and shouldn't be overlooked.
