Why 'Basic Instinct's Catherine and Nick are a memorable (Neo) Film Noir couple

Image
The 1992 Erotic Neo Film Noir was both popular and controversial upon release. Not to mention a certain scene concerning the female main character during a police interrogation. The movie sparked real life outrage and similar crimes. But these topics are not what fans of the film think about. Rather, prefer to ignore. The chemistry and twist of fate between Nick Curran and Catherine Tramell is no better than Samson and Delilah from Biblical times. Both have done things in their past which parallels the other. Faced with danger and done things which others would shun them for. They both know a great deal about each other. Not to mention have a profound attraction.  To those around them, they feel this is a physical attraction which won't lead to anything. Or they are jealous and bitter like Roxy. A relationship like theirs is better off clandestine. A crooked and tormented cop and a femme fatale novelist, sounds like an interesting story. Since this tale is both alluring and t...

Why dating doesn't exist in Film Noirs

In the dating World, experts say destiny is nonexistent and everybody should be demanding perfection. Even going on to say dating itself is easy. Even being self absorb, manipulative and greedy should be condoned. Whether a popular trend or not, finding an ideal partner IS hard. Which is why most stay single. Films noirs  are a genre of movies which can either end with the male and female together or betraying. The word to describe how they meet isn't through dating. Rather fate but in a twisted way. The male lead is a man who'll do anything to keep the female lead who seduces him. She encourages him by her words and honesty. He has his job of which she doesn't criticize and he accepts her for who she is. They may be up to something which is no good, of course. However, that isn't what they feel for each other. They want a better life together and get away from the obstacles in the way. We as the audience can see that.  Their is a previous or potentially ending relation...

Why some don't attend or leave a Church but still believe

Nowadays not many people attend Church services. It isn't because of denominational differences however.  Be it travel, responsibilities at home, or a work schedule, among a few reasons. Sometimes it's actually due to how churches have become pressured to be more Worldly, or they operate more like businesses. Or much worse than that. Imagine a pastor told a married spouse the Holy Spirit revealed that person would be married to somebody else one day. Leaving their significant other sharing their beliefs. There is no wrong doing whatsoever in the marriage. Doesn't sound like something the Holy Spirit, Jesus or God would condone. Only someone who is controlling and manipulative would say something blasphemous and contradicting.  Suppose someone receives a prophecy claiming they have to become this or that in this type of position. There isn't much reliance on their belief to handle things or it's limited. They have to outdo themselves rather than rely on God, which c...

Why 'As Long As You Are Mine' is the perfect song about Elphaba and Fiyero from 'Wicked'

Image
Scene from 'Wicked' on Broadway Without a shadow of a doubt, 'Wicked' is a successful and popular book, Broadway show, and now film series. From the acting and songs 'Defying Gravity' to 'Popular', and its book prequel by Gregory Maguire retelling of the land of Oz. An inspiration taken from L. Frank Baum original 'Wizard of Oz' books. This is one of those stories nobody will ever forget. Especially not the love story between the "Wicked" witch of the West Elphaba and Prince Fiyero. http://wickedlywicked.blogspot.com/2009/01/wicked-script.html When we first see Fiyero arriving, he's the object of desire by all the female students, espeically G(a)linda. Even the male ones try and get friendly with him, in hopes of becoming cool and getting a girl.  Elphaba is ...

'Knights of the Round Table, The' (1953): A classic retelling of King Arthur

The story of king Arthur and his knights have been for centuries. From the pulling of the Excalibur sword from the sacred stone. To the forbidden romance between Maid Marian and Sir Launcelot. This medieval England story has never been forgotten and still fascinates. This classic 1953 technicolor film retells the story in its own unique way.  The costumes are simple and colourful and brings the personality of each historical character to life. The fight scenes are as many people would imagine during the conquest for land in those days. The acting is exceptional and the dialog is jovial and even witty at times. Richard Thorpe directed more than one film with Robert Taylor and this is one of the them. Despite the actor's annoyance of portraying in medieval films. Classic films don't always do excellent jobs of retelling historical stories. On the contrary, they bring attention to them. Which sparkles out own interest in learning. Therefore, we can't say it didn't do it...
