This sounds familar: When pop culture gets inspiration from the Bible

Whether one likes it or not, the Bible has inspired a great deal of famous stories, TV series, plays, music and even movies. Despite difference of religion and opinions on the scriptures. We've seen this for as long as there's been book publishing and major film making.

The classic fables by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm are key examples. Cinderella has similarity to the story of Esther, of acceptance and overcoming cruelty. Snow White took from the story of [future] King David's father-in-law, King Saul, murderous jealousy towards him. Additionally, David slaying Goliath also is inspiration for Jack and the Beanstalk. The story of Sleeping Beauty takes from the arrival of a curse and the importance of a deliverer.

In famous novels, the Bible continues to be a source material. East of Eden Biblical inspiration not only for its title but the story of Cain and Abel rivalry. The book of Exodus parallels the anthropomorphic tale of surviving and overcoming oppression is found in Richard Adam's Watership Down. Other books such as Brothers Karamazov, Madame Bovary, Count of Monte Cristo and Anna Karnenina have been inspired by passages and teachings from the Old and New Testament. Especially in the subject of forgiveness and vengeance.

In the topic of films, some with serial continuation and spin-offs bare some Christian elements. The Marvel comics turn Action movies have been said to taken inspiration from the Easter story. While the film franchise Star Wars is no exception especially with the make design for their villains. In the subject of stage plays, some have said Samson and Delilah were the original Romeo and Juliet. Of which others wouldn't say is absurd given the topics of forbidden romance and tragedy.

The next time one goes to watch a film or read a book. Chances are, it might have a Bible connection.
