The Bad Boy: profoundly awful or antihero?

 

For as long as there's been books, Opera, film and television. We have always heard of one kind of archetype: the bad boy. A man who ignores rules, laws and politeness. Then again, is it always the case? Take the example of Samson from the Judges in the Bible. 

Samson believed converting outsiders of his religion to God through marriage was right in his perspective. Much to the disagreement of his family.What later happened to the lady he planned to marry. His anger led to vengeance on their unfair ways, a classic example of a "bad" boy origin story. Unfairness, betrayal and cruelty, especially once forgiveness towards those victimized.

In the Horror Drama genre, vampires have a similar trope. Be it Alexander Grayson of Dracula (2013) or other famous TV vampires. In the tales of swashbucklers like 'Captain Blood', D'artagnan from the 'Three Musketeers' and 'The Pirate' directed by Vincent Minnelli. We see that the male lead also fit this trope long before it was written. The love interest in the stories either are his brief encounters or the sole object of his desire; it can either be his motivation to change or his downfall. 

As for real life examples, there isn't much of the Samson-type. But that doesn't mean their isn't one whose life parallels the famous lion wrestler of the Book of Judges. Be it the questionable love life and rumors of physical appearance. Regardless of real or fictional, one thing is certain. These men are not perfect but they always have a chance to reform.

New Kids on the Block's 'Dirty Dawg': The modern day 'Carmen' song

  There's no question the Boston boy band were widely huge in the late 80s to early 90s. Having troves of screaming girls crushing and critics dismissing them as exaggerated. Originally wanting to do R&B, Hip Hop and New Jack Swing, they did Pop music in their early years. Which eventually lead to their 1994 album ' Face the Music '.
