RICK'S REAL/REEL LIFE: Madame Bovary 1949

RICK'S REAL/REEL LIFE: Madame Bovary 1949 : MGM's 1949 'Madame Bovary' is wildly erratic and highly watchable.  A great blog about this 1949 film.

Why stories like 'Madame Bovary' and 'Leave Her to Heaven' are still relevant today

What can be said about the classic Period Piece written by Gustave Flaubert? It was a novel which sparked outrage and was taken to court. Successfully, the author was acquitted and his book still is regarded as a masterpiece. It wasn't meant to be offensive, rather an example of the length someone will go to for excitement and pleasure. Not a fairy tale with a happy ending when you think about it.  It's the story of a troubled and confused Emma Bovary, who leaves her convent believing life in novels are exacting. No understanding of figurative and literal; neither of moral lessons and real life cases. Neglect, pride, and obsession is carried out from beginning to end. Emma never has time for her daughter Berthe, seeing that her nanny is her mother instead. Furthermore, regrets marrying Charles, the doctor she pressures to become and wishes to be renowned.  Emma rather have fantastic relationship and when she doesn't receive it, disposes of the man as if he were a garbag...

Seduce her but CAN'T fight the LOVE that comes with it: According to films like 'Yolanda and the Thief' and 'Guys and Dolls'

Image
When we look at films like 'Yolanda and the Thief' and 'Guys and Dolls'. We don't see much similarities, both are musical romances which star famous singers who also are actors. The viewer would assume those are the only comparisons. But we do see something occur in these two different stories. In both movies, we see the lead male character seduces the female lead into trusting him, only with the intent of causing her some sort of pain. Johnny Riggs (Fred Astaire Yolanda and the Thief) and Sky Matheson (Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls) both seduce with the purpose of a selfish and cruel intention. Speaking of the latter two words, the famous French novel, 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' also is about a similar theme. Seducing with the intent of ruined, which are male lead of that story Valmont intends to do. But what do we see in these three different stories? Does the ruin even happen as intended? Instead, we see that the male lead is consume by a greater feel...

Vampires using Seduction: How it is their greatest tool at hand

Seduction is the greatest tool of the vampire. How seduction can is so simple, anybody can do it in real life too. The vampire must learn everything they can about their victim. Their desires and struggles, their likes and dislikes, what their personality is like especially. They want their victim to gain their trust, therefore showing compassion and understanding are vital.  Many non-readers of fantasy books about vampires, or their television series and films, will wonder why it is a lot of their admirers are drawn to such stories. They are drawn to the allure the titular character, their sophistication and mystery, intelligence and charm. What made Dracula such a famous story was his ability to make his victim be smitten by how different he was from men of 19th century England. His tales of Transylvania and his loneliness couldn't be ignored but his ability to survive and rise in the social rank isn't far from impressive. The older Salvatore brother of the popular 'Vam...

Why social media ruins relationships

Since the rise of popular platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. There's various reasons some use it. They're those who promote their businesses, others their interests. Than there's those who share their lives on it. Which can only lead to problems. Imagine having started a relationship with someone. Then broadcasting it on social media. The frequent posts contains pictures and videos. Always with the same reactions and words used. Including ridiculously long messages. After a while, many people begin to wonder if the pairing is genuine. Why aren't the couple looking in the same direction? Why are the so-called love messages long? Why are weird and outlandish stories being told? Chances are, one of them is exploiting the other for attention online. They believe the saying, "A picture is worth a thousands words.". But at dangerous levels of adoration. Literally thinking creating a faux relationship will win favor. By exaggerating activities and trips, the d...
